Security and Safety (Organizations, tourism office, authorities)
The Queen City of the South boasts to be one of the safest cities to visit in the world. Exit and entry points like the sea port and airport, shopping malls and other public establishments, security guards are visible. The rigid baggage inspections through X-ray machines and K-9 dogs are conducted to deter trouble makers and terrorists.
Although public safety in Cebu is good, residents, local and foreign tourists are advised not to walk along the downtown area wearing genuine jewellery or using their mobile phones to prevent snatching. Plus, avoid walking along the street with precious belongings to avoid being robbed. Also, avoid pickpockets; be watchful with your bags or pockets especially in public jeepneys and crowded areas.
Foreign tourists can have their currency converted to peso at money changers, hotels and banks. For advantageous rates, safe money changing shops are located at major shopping malls like SM City Cebu, Ayala mall and Robinson’s mall. US dollars, Euro and Pound Sterling are the best currencies to carry in Cebu. Generally, money changers offer fast service because it requires fewer formalities.
